Good
News! Everyone
had been returning from away for Spring and Summer.
After catching up with each other on stories and journeys, we
talked about a few serious
issues and how we could continue helping each other to be the
leaders that our community needs in these difficult times. We share
our stories and celebrate our achievements.
 The
Institute for Practical Democacy
Born in 1996 out of Portland’s new immigrant communities, IPD is a
youth organization committed to the belief that young people can and must
be active leaders in our communities and in the broader society.
Over the years, more than one hundred of us have come together through IPD
to learn and practice skills for living, working, succeeding, and leading
in a democracy. Our
families and our supporters and mentors are from many parts of the world
and the nation, as well as Maine. We are a continuing legacy of the
American experience that keeps our democracy strong enough to weather many
storms. Together we are a dynamic group, multicultural and
multitalented, the young men and women who will help shape the future in
Maine and beyond. Although our educations, careers, and families have
taken us on different paths, our ties remain strong.
