Victoria Mares Hershey
FOUNDER OF IPD
Institute for Practical Democracy

 

 

Ms. Hershey is the Director Of Development for
Portlandwest, Portland, Maine. She is also a founder
& director of the Institute for Practical Democracy, a
Youth Leadership Development Program. Now in its
eighth year. A graduate in Political Science from
Michigan State University, Ms. Hershey has studied
electronic journalism in a Columbia University
Graduate School of Journalism Program, Vietnamese
Culture and Language at the Foreign Service Institute
and Intercultural Communication at the Institute for
Cross-Culture Communication in Portland, Oregon.
She is a former Dean of Students at Colby College,
and continues working today as a Fine Arts Artist &
Writer. She has been appointed to the Maine Arts Commission

as a Commissioner and is on its committee for Community
Arts.  Her daughter Rebecca grew up in Maine, graduated
from  Cornell University and works for the American Civil
Liberties Union in New York City.
